St. Augustine Amateur Radio Society

This Saturday (February 26) is the last Saturday of the month when we do a Breakfast.  This Saturday we be at  “The Spot” which is located 4508 US 1 St. Augustine near the airport.  (MAP) The Spot opens at 7:30 which is also our normal time to gather for breakfast.

The next meeting will be held at 7:00 pm, Tuesday, March 1, 2021 at  the  St. Johns County Fair Grounds, 5840 S.R. 207 Elkton, Florida 32033 Map
Enter the fairgrounds from Armstrong Rd immediately off of Hwy 207.

We will be discussing Florida State Parks on the Air and discussing filters for field day.

This Saturday (27h) is the last Saturday of the month. We will be holding our Last Saturday of the Month Breakfast Social at KeKe’s Breakfast Cafe, 135 Jenkins St, Ste 106, St. Augustine (Cobblestone) (map) at 7:30am. We hope to see you there.

Winter Field Day setup to follow.

Winter Field Day will be held at the St. Johns County Fair Grounds (5840 S.R. 207 Elkton, Florida 32033 Map Enter the fairgrounds from Armstrong Rd immediately off of Hwy 207) on January 29 and possibly Sunday January 30. Sunday activities are to be determined. Setup will start at approximately 9:00am on Saturday following the end of month Breakfast Social at KeKe’s. Please fill out the surveys regarding attendance, meals and equipment.

The program this month will be: Winter Field Day Planning

KP2N, Ron Hall, Sr. is now a Silent Key. Ron was first licensed in the 50s and was a lifelong DXer. He worked in the radio broadcast industry as an engineer for many years in Puerto Rico where he had to be creative in keeping a station on the air through hurricanes and a long-distance supply chain. As a ham, Ron served as the ARRL section manager for the Virgin Islands. Recently Ron has been an active member of the St Augustine Amateur Radio Society, participating in the 2021 Field Day working over a hundred FT8 contacts during a rare 6-meter opening. Just last week he was able to attend the SAARS Christmas party along with his daughter Jina where he entertained many of us with his radio stories. He will be sorely missed by his many ham friends all over the world. Please keep Ron and his family in your thoughts and prayers.

Since the last Saturday of December is Christmas Day, we will not be meeting for break fast.

It’s been another GREAT Year for SAARS

It will be a buffet at Brisky’s BBQ.  Pulled Pork, Brisket, Turkey and sides plus desert.   $15 for members and $20 for guests.  Beverages extra.   We will be needing commitments on attendance so that we can give the restaurant a number.  Emails to follow.
