The St. Augustine Amateur Radio Society will be participating in the International Lighthouse Lightship Weekend (ILLW). This is a 48-hour operational event with focus on contacting as many other lighthouses as possible as well as making contacts with other amateur stations. The official kickoff time is 8:01PM (0001 UTC) on Friday evening August 14th, 2015. We will operate for a full 48-hours and complete our objective at 8:00PM (0000 UTC) on Sunday evening August 16th, 2015.
Please plan to assist. WE NEED YOUR HELP! Contact us with your preferred time slot by clicking the contact button on this web page. Just tell us when you can help out.
It is also very important that all members and friends of SAARS attend the August 4th, 2015 meeting at the Main Branch of the St. Johns County Library located on Ponce de Leon Blvd. Our program will be a speaker from the St. Augustine Lighthouse with tips that will come in handy during our event. You can also sign up to operate at the meeting.
SAARS supports passage of the Amateur Radio Parity Act. This Act, when passed, will allow amateur radio operators to erect reasonable antennas at residences covered by HOAs, COAs and CCRs. To learn more about this act and help support its passage, please visit our Amateur Radio Parity Act page.
It was a colossal event!
This year’s Field Day was an overwhelming success. A full 24 hours on most bands and modes of operation resulted in more than 400 contacts. There were around 50 operators and visitors that all came together resulting in a most successful weekend. Be it the fellowship, food, new faces, or entertainment the fellowship of all were enjoyed.

The location for the 2015 Field Day Event has been changed.
Due to a road construction project at the Dunn’s Creek State Park we have had to change this years Field Day location to the Welaka State Forest Park. This location is about the same distance and it appears that it just might turn out to be a better site for the event.
The physical location address is: 794 CR-309 – Welaka, FL
However Google Maps and MapQuest requires the mailing address rather than the physical address. So when searching using a navigation device use this information instead:
For MapQuest, Google, etc.: Welaka State Park (700-786 County Road 309, Crescent City, FL 32112) Or 29.468622, -81.659133
Palatka 147.060 (Tone 123.0)
St. Augustine 146.625 (No Tone)
You may have to call a couple of times, but keep calling. Call out to: Welaka Field Day Operations; we will respond with a proper call sign.
CHECK-IN: Check-In arrival times begin at noon on Friday June 26th; all set-ups and campsites must be vacated no later than noon on Monday June 28th. Upon arrival please check-in at the Field Day Registration site with either Jeff Motl or Doug Stewart. We will have your Name Tag and need you to sign the roster sheet. Large equipment (such as the ARES Trailer, County Mobile Tower, etc.) may arrive as early as 8:00 AM on Friday 6/26/2015. Call Doug Stewart (KI4NAD) for assistance on one of the Talk-In frequencies or by phone (386) 546-6172.
Those with RV's – You may want to stop as you approach the site. We will help you find a site of your choice and then escort you to make driving in a little easier. Or feel free to explore on your own.
CAMPING: If you are camping you DO NOT need to stop at the State Park Check-In. We will take care of that paperwork and fees down at the Field Day operations area. It is very simple. Camping is $15.00 per night. For the most part camping is primitive. Depending on the site that you select there is some water hookups available. There is also a couple of 15 amp. electrical plugs but NO AIR CONDITIONERS on those outlets. They will not carry the load. Generators are of course permitted.
Food, Water, Restrooms: There will be bottled water available. Food is on your own except for Saturday night and Sunday morning. Any special needs foods are on your own.
There are public restrooms on the site.
COOK OUT: We will have a group dinner (Spaghetti) on Saturday evening around 6pm. Also there will be a small breakfast (Biscuits & Gravy) on Sunday morning around 8am.
